This toyline always bothered me that you could never buy Beetlejuice how he looked in the movie without some sort of head attachment or the wrong suit. I wish I'd have thought of the whole head switch idea. Guess I was a bit of a purist. :P

Kenner sure loved their exploding figures. The Terminator and Aliens line had them too. The only thing missing was an exploding Max Schreck for the Batman Returns line.

I loved these toys, but they were gone from the stores almost as soon as I fell in love with them. A commercial advertised a second line, but it didn't make it to any store I went to. Very frustrating.

I recently got all four of the last series Haunted Humans for less than $20 MOC. I think I have all the other figures except the Shipwreck BJ. Great line. Mixes well with GB, Police Academy, Joe Extreme, and all the rest...

Awesome -- this post really brought back memories! Memories that get brought back every time I go down in the basement, since I have quite a few of the old BJ toys and keep them in a fairly prominent place... they're actually the reason I passed on the NECA BJ, since there's no way he can be as fun as they are. And Beetlejuice's grave? My favorite "playset" of all time. :)

The exploding Beetlejuice was from the second wave, where each figure had a bona fide action feature (exploding, snakes that popped out from the top of the figure's head) instead of the interchangeable head gimmick and weaker features of the first wave.

Anyway, great entry -- I really enjoyed reading about someone else's appreciation of the line. :)

Ah, what a fun and different toy line. I had the Showtime Beetlejuice, and a few others back in the day, none of the other BJs though. I also had the Cool Phantom Glider. They don't make vehicles and playsets like they used to. I even remember that commercial very fondly. I think I enjoyed the action features the most on these figures. and the tiny green shrunken head on the Showtime BJ was just cool. I remember wanting the skewered BJ, but could never find him with any of his skewers. I guess those were the first things lost by kids.
