I found these hollow Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mini-figures in a $2 bin at this year's Philadelphia Comic Con. They looked like cool little figures that were hitherto unseen to this collector's eyes, so I thought they'd be nice souvenirs from the con. But I had no clue as to what they were. Maybe they were cake toppers? Dollar store toys? Candy containers?
Wait... that's it right there. After a quick eBay search I confirmed that they are, in fact, candy containers, and pretty cool ones, too. Usually vintage candy dispensers depict the disembodied head of a character, but these are actually full-bodied sculpts. The plastic is much more solid than the usual character candy dispensers, too.
And the different green hues of the Turtles are reminiscent of the Playmates Raphael and Donatello figures. It's a nice touch.
I scoured the bin for the other two Turtles but they were nowhere to be found. Fortunately, that's what eBay's for! They don't seem to go for much, but getting a complete set might be tricky. Food-related collectibles are always a little hit and miss.

I remember when these things were sold in the checkout areas. At the time, I cared not for these hollow plastic candy tombs. But now they look quite delightful. I never bought any of these, but I did enjoy a snacking or two of the TMNT Gummies that were often stocked along side them. :)
Those are pretty dang neat!
I had all four of these as a youngster. I bought them at Woolworths, which was home to many a great TMNT toy. I got them at the checkout and while these sorts of things weren't usually up my alley, TMNT stuff was just too cool to pass up.
I kept them for years, as they were sturdy and the coolest part was that each turtle had the individual skin tone. Not sure whatever happened to them, though.
@Newt: The sturdiness of the plastic is what impresses me the most about these figures. I normally wouldn't say that candy containers are legitimate mini-figures, but these guys are solid enough to count in my book.
I always got these from the Ice Cream Man. :D
I remember my wee bro and I fighting over the Donny figure as there were never too many of them about, the sweets were pretty nice if I remember too, PEZ style hard candys.
