Toy Review: Green Lantern Movie Voz and G'Hu (4"-scale)

Although the 4" Green Lantern movie figures were almost universally panned, I loved them. There was something about them that was inescapably toy-like, much more so than the supposedly “better” lines like Thor and Captain America. Besides, the alien designs were some of the coolest I had seen in years.  That added up to a line that was a load of fun... for this collector, at least.

But the figures languished on the shelves and I began to doubt that I’d see the later waves at all. Fortunately, I managed to pick up what will probably be the last two figures from the Corps in the 4" scale, Voz and G’Hu. (Edit: The last will probably be Salaak; see URS' comment below.) So how are they? If you've been reading the Green Lantern reviews here on the Dork Dimension, much of what follows will sound pretty familiar.

Like the others in the line, the paint apps on Voz and G’Hu are lacking but the sculpts are pretty strong. Voz is my favorite of the two because his character design reminds me a lot of the super-cool prehistoric ground sloth. G’Hu has a design that seems like it’s straight from a cliched 90’s sci-fi movie. Yet another spindly alien with head tentacles? Yawn.

Articulation for this line isn’t its strongest suit. G’Hu has only 5 points of articulation (swivel neck, shoulders, and hips), but the figure can still move relatively well. Unfortunately, G'Hu doesn't have the ball-hinge shoulders that most of the other Green Lantern movie figures have. But Voz is an articulation disaster at 4 measly points of articulation (swivel shoulders, hips) and a sculpt that seriously limits movement.

As with the other Lantern figures, these dudes come with rubbery green constructs... as well as those ubiquitous Green Lantern rings, of course. G’hu's construct is a cool sci-fi laser, and Voz's is an “energy blast” that you connect to other constructs. It's the exact same accessory that came with Kilowog, Max Charge Kilowog, and Hannu, and at at this point its coolness is seriously wearing thin. Still, the size of the figures and their constructs make them a pretty good value at $7-$8, and you might be able to even find them on sale these days.

As the last movie figures from the Green Lantern Corps in this scale, I wish G’hu and Voz were a better send-off for the line. They fill out the Corps pretty well, but they’re not nearly the best the line has to offer.
