Toy Pix: Jason's He-Man and TMNT Display

My friend Jason has a pretty sweet He-Man collection, so I thought I'd show his display in this episode of Toy Pix!  He dedicated a shelf to all the good guys in the vintage MOTU line. I like the dramatic lighting he uses for his displays. Fortunately Mekaneck, my most hated MOTU figure, is hidden in this shot behind He-Man. I don't think Jason included the movie figures but they don't count anyway, right?

He also has a sweet Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles display, featuring the most recognizable characters from the classic TMNT cartoon. Of note is the 1994 April O'Neil, which is probably the best representation of the character from the vintage line... besides, of course, April the Ninja Newscaster. ;)

Very nice collections!

The bebop in this photo has brown face whereas mine has pale face, is that a variant?

Keep 'em coming!

The early TMNT figures were Soft heads, and the later releases were Hard heads. Just like with some MOTU figures. You probably have the first release soft head bebop?

From what I can tell from the pics on NinjaTurtles.com, most of the versions of Bebop (including the first release) have a pale pink face. The 1994 reissue seems to have a brown face with pink snout. The strange thing is that the figure in Jason's collection has a brown snout. So I guess it is a variant... I'll have to ask him about it next time I talk to him.

Hey, it's Jason. I bought the Bebop figure from the display around 1990. It has a uniformly brown head. It's molded in that color and it's a hard plastic head not soft. There is no variation of pink around the nose, only details like his glasses, nose ring, teeth and hair are painted on top of the brown plastic.

It's funny that you mentioned hating Mecha-Neck from the He-man line. I actually love him and the other more colorful characters just cause they make the display really pop with primary colors! I have since pushed Mecha-Neck to the front along with Sy-Clone, Rio-Blast, and Snout-Spout. They are stupid stupid characters (and I never even had them when I was a kid) but man seeing those colors takes me back to the 1980's almost as well as watching a double feature of Barry Gordy's The Last Dragon and Break'n 2 Electric Boogaloo.

Those displays look nice but the same question/concern always pops right into my head, "What about dust?!?!"

I've always hesitated to put figures on open shelves because of the hassle with dusting them. Of course, the smaller the collection the easier that is to manage.

Thanks for sharing the pictures! It's always interesting to see collections.

How do you know it's the 1994 April?

The head sculpt and the costume paint apps give it away. The first April sculpt had a pretty simplistic head and an unpainted costume. The second April was substantially different with a resculpted head and body. And the third April (the 1994 version above) seems to have the same body as the first version, but a resculpted head and more paint apps in the costume. I don't own any of them (yet), but that's what I can tell from the pics I've seen.

The original April also had an orange-trimmed variant. It was more common than the one with the all-yellow jumpsuit pictured on the page.

(reading the stats) Wow, I'm older than April now, and what have I done with my life? : (
