This week's comic ad features one of my favorite toy lines of all time, Shogun Warriors! You can see some of the super-cool Shogun Warriors toys that were available in the late 70's. Buy 4 and you'd get a free Shogun iron-on featuring most of the 24" Jumbo Machinders: Daimos, Great Mazinga, Raideen, Gaiking, Godzilla and Rodan! (Dragun is missing from the iron-on.)I have many great memories of those Jumbo Machinders. Of the robots, Daimos was my man, and my brother had Raideen and Great Mazinga. We also had the two monsters, Godzilla and Rodan. Godzilla was my childhood buddy... I was probably only 3 or 4 at the time, so I'd carry him around much like a teddy bear, holding his clawed hand with my hand. Rodan was my brother's Shogun monster. With its gigantic wing span, it was quite the impressive beast. Alas, Rodan did not fare particularly well; I accidentally broke the rubber band in his neck and that was all she wrote.
As an adult, I've collected a few of the other Jumbo Machinders, so you can probably expect to see them in a Toy Tribute eventually. They're amazingly awesome toys, even today. Check out this commercial on YouTube... classic!

I love Shogun Warriors...I wish I had the privilege of having them as a kid. I remember going to the antique malls with my parents alot as a kid, and for some reason at one of the stores there was always a Giant Dragun Shogun with saw-blades in his arms sitting in the same spot for YEARS! I always wanted to buy him, but he was too much. Finally I actually had money of my own, and actually went there one day in hopes to finally purchase the awesome robot...alas he was gone. :( I was dead sad. He had been there for so long, probably close to 10 years, and then Poof! Gone!
I stumbled upon a group of 3 a number of years ago at another Thrift/antique shop and bought them for $75 bucks...Daimos, Raideen, and Mazinger..but it wasn't the same, and I sold em. They weren't perfect or complete though. I plan on eventually buying a set of these guys one day when I can afford it. As I can attest that they are some of the coolest action figures ever made.
And man that commercial was just awesome! I remember the comic ads though. I even have a run of Shogun Warriors comics that I used to read when I was little.
As always great review! Like URS, I never had these as a kid. However, the older brother of the girl down the street had these plus Godzilla and Rodan. Every time he was out of the house when I was over I'd say, "Let's go play with your brother's toys."
Luckily her Mom always threw us out of his room. That would have been a worthy punch-inducing offense. Today, I have my Mom keep a watch on their house - I'm waiting for the dream garage sale!
This ad was one of my dream toy ads as a kid...I never knew that all of these things were not in-scale to each other, or that they were from a number of different properties.
Soul of Chogokin gives me a lot more bang for the buck, and when Dangard is fully released in the US, my Shoguns will be complete at last (once I get Diamos, since he less important to me).
