Comic Ad of the Week 29: Reese's Pieces Alien

Here's a nifty blast from the past. This week's comic ad features the weird little alien guy who made the perilous journey through deep space just for Reese's Pieces. I can understand the draw... Reese's Pieces are one of my top-seed candies.

As you likely remember, ET munched on Reese's Pieces during his movie. Hershey's obviously wanted to capitalize on the ET association, so the mascot for Reese's Pieces became a similar diminutive, stumpy-legged, doe-eyed alien.

Check out a couple of the vintage commercials below, in astounding high-quality YouTubevision!

This comic ad was shown in Ambush Bug #1, 1985.

Isn't this guy like a creepy ripoff of E.T.? That always bugged me and I could never give this guy his due.

Sorry, guy, but you're just a creepy ripoff of E.T., and I can't forgive you for it.

Yeah, take off the ears, nose, and antennae, and you got something that looks exactly like ET.

Well, not too mention the fact that ET loves Reese's Pieces in the movie, right? Maybe Reese's was like, hey, Spielberg, let us use ET to market Reese's Pieces! And Spielberg was like, nah. And they were like, nah? Wtf? Oh, yeah, well, we'll make our own alien then!

:p
