Comic Ad of the Week 27: Mattel DC Superheroes

This week's comic ad features Superman and Bizarro from the Mattel DC Superheroes line. The ad might be a relatively recent one, but like many of the comic ads here, it makes me a tad bit nostalgic because it makes me reminisce about the good old days when collecting the Mattel DC line wasn't the absolute debacle that it is today.

I believe that the figures shown in this pic are prototypes. Take a look at the pegs in the knee joints... they're definitely different from the production figures. But I don't think these are the two-ups. The proportions and detailing seem indicative of the normal-scaled figures.

I'd love to see more ads in this vein, featuring large shots of the figures in dioramas. Superman's pose could have been a bit more dynamic considering how much articulation that figure has, don't you think?

This ad appeared in the Free Comic Book Day reprint of Superman/Batman #1.

I didn't notice this here before, but i can't resist pointing out that the DCSH line was at LEAST the debacle that DCUC has been. That is, if you wanted any figures other than Scarecrow, Superman, or Bizarro.

The last half of the line barely ever hit retail thanks to the brilliance of Mattel's Superman/Bizarro only casepacks.

It is indeed a good ad though. Wish the DCUC ads were this cool, they've all been relatively boring so far.
