MOTUC Mer-Man complications... UPDATE!

The Masters of the Universe Classics Mer-Man is a figure that I've been eagerly anticipating.  Mer-Man was my very first MOTU figure when I was a kid and is definitely in my top 3 favorite figures from the line (along with Man-E-Faces and Stinkor).   But I was nervous because each MOTUC figure sells out more quickly with each successive month.  So I was sure to stay frosty this month... but there's only so much that frostiness can do.

Like last month with Faker, I sat at my computer just before noon and refreshed the screen until Mer-Man was available.  But when I tried to order the figure, the server tanked.  These are the sorts of shenanigans that I was expecting when Mattel announced MOTUC would be an online exclusive. I was furious... didn't Mattel learn anything about the popularity of this line from the previous months? And of all the figures for this crap to happen, it had to be Mer-Man.

Fortunately after trying for 15 minutes, I was able to squeeze in and order a Mer-Man. I hope this is a wakeup call for Mattel to get their servers up to speed for next month so that they'll be able to process the orders. Demand for this line only seems to be increasing and I'm sure when Hordak comes out in June the demand will be through the roof.

If you aren't able to order one before they're sold out (which will probably be in a few hours), Mattel has announced that they'll have a second run that will be available April 23rd. Good luck!

UPDATE (4/17): The first batch of Mer-Man figures sold out in roughly 90 minutes! Mattel says that the number of units included in that first batch was the same as that of Beastman, which sold out in 41 days. Clearly, the popularity of this line is exploding! Mattel claims that it will consider increasing production further on Zodac and Hordak if the second batch of Mer-Man figures sells well. While that's good, I suspect that they'll still underestimate the demand for Hordak. It's best to be on MattyCollector.com doing the 11:50 refresh if you want a chance at getting that figure.

Mattel also says that they are aware of the technical problems on Wednesday and that they "have immediately taken corrective measure so that this never happens again" with "a new Castle Grayskull sized super server dedicated to the site and are now better prepared for larger traffic on sale days". Again, Hordak will be the true test of this. Hopefully these problems are ironed out soon.

Same issue here, I didnt think I would get through at all after the site stalled at checkout multiple times but I finally received a confirmation email. Must be one of those refreshes worked!

It took me over 30 minutes to complete the transaction. Until Mattel fixes these problems, I'm done with this line.

It was very frustrating.

Yeah, i haven't bought a single one of these yet, and i'll be buying Hordak. I imagine i'm not the only one. :)

Between giving out DCUC exclusives to stores that don't carry the line, and having another line that's only available for like a ten hour block via a server that can't handle the traffic, i just can't figure Mattel out. They definitely derive some sort of sick pleasure from making their toys hard to get though.

Almost as if they don't NEED money, and the fears and unrest of collectors are payment enough.
