Second look at Star Trek movie toys from Playmates! UPDATED!

Following up the first leaked image of a 6" Kirk figure is this article from USA Today showing an array of Star Trek toys from the movie!  Shown are 12" figures, a 3 3/4" scale transporter room and bridge, a communicator replica, and an Enterprise model.

The 12" figures look pretty bad for the most part. McCoy looks acceptable, but Spock is a little hurting and Kirk is a total disaster. They all have grotesquely overdeveloped torsos. I doubt these will be worth the money.

The playsets are kind of cool though. I've always been a sucker for transporter room playsets and this new one looks pretty fun. It will be interesting to see how they simulate the transporting process. The Enterprise bridge is nifty, but could have been better. I think I would have liked it a lot more if it had walls. The way it stands now, it looks unsubstantial.

The communicator is what it is. But the Enterprise model is actually pretty sweet! I love the smooth futuristic lines and the different shades of gray add a bit of color variation. I'd like to have some sort of weathering or detailing to bring out the details, but this is a pretty good toy for the price.

The toys are scheduled to be in stores April 19th! Despite my disappointment about the Kirk figure, I'm really looking forward to this line!

Update 1/23/09: Trekmovie.com updated with new shots of some of the toys. We get to see some detailed pics of the 3 3/4" figures, 6" figures, some role playing toys, and a great high res shot of the Enterprise. The 6" figures are kind of hit and miss (with probably more miss than hit). The 3 3/4" figures are actually not all that bad. The proportions are off in that the figures are a bit too squarish in the torso, and Kirk's likeness is a disaster, but other than that, they're pretty cool! Check them out here!
