Comic Ad of the Week 10: Pac-Man Day on ABC!

This week's comic ad comes from World's Finest #286, proclaiming Saturday September 25th 1982 as "Pac-Man Day on ABC-TV!"

I don't remember most of these shows, but I definitely remember Pac-Man. It was a fun but short-lived cartoon that influenced the design of Pac-Land, an arcade game with uncharacteristic (for Pac-Man at least) side-scrolling action. I also remember Richie Rich. "How rich can you get? You never gonna know till you met..."

I never even knew the Mork & Mindy and Laverne & Shirley cartoons existed. Were they so devoid of original ideas that they had to directly copy prime-time television so blatantly? Little Rascals and The Puppy's New Adventures don't sound familiar either. I do remember watching Scooby and Scrappy. Although I acknowledge the validity of today's Scrappy hatred, I liked him when I was a kid.

The graphics for this ad make it one of my favorites. They didn't skimp on the background maze, it's a good reproduction of the one from the original Pac-Man game. Great Pac-Man logo too. And look at the font... I know these were the pre-Photoshop days, but that font is definitely Balloon Extra.

The obligatory YouTube videos with the intros follow! Note that they all end on the same triumphant trumpet note. (I couldn't find Puppy's New Adventures or Little Rascals, unfortunately.)

"triumphant trumpet note"... LOL

Wouldn't have even noticed that if you didn't mention it...
