You can see it definitely uses the 90s Kenner sculpting methodology, with five points of articulation and a spread-eagle hyperextended action stance. This figure has a bit more detail than usual 90s Kenner fare, though. I always loved the sculpting of the right hand in particular. What a great gesture!
Ambush Predator came with 4 accessories: a mask, two bladed weapons, and a chest plate. I've never liked the chest plate as the stark black doesn't really go with the "invisible" premise of the figure. The shiny weapons and mask are better, but they would be cooler if they were in the same clear plastic as the Predator.
The concept was ingenious: although it used an existing mold, the clear-plastic made it seem like a totally new figure. More importantly, since this was one of the first exclusive clear mailaways and being invisible was an important feature in the movie, the clear plastic made it unimaginably cool.
Ambush Predator was available right when I started collecting toys as collectibles rather than as playthings, so I ate this mailaway up. Come to think of it, the Predator and Aliens lines from Kenner in the early 90s were very cool. They're certainly under-appreciated these days, like many 90s toylines, as well as this Ambush Predator. You're one ugly mother frakker, Ambush! And speaking of Aliens vs. Predator, check out the commercial for the toylines below!

5 out of 5 - Simply incredible!
4 out of 5 - Pretty awesome!
3 out of 5 - Cool enough, I suppose.
2 out of 5 - Not quite good enough.
1 out of 5 - Pretty horrific!
0 out of 5 - No redeeming quality at all.

This fig was awesome! Me an my bro used to try to buy every alien/predator fig they ever came out with. My brother actually was the one who got them, but I think I played with em the most.
I remember cutting out the UPC codes with him to order the Stealth Predator! We both had a fit when it arrived. I probably used it the most....until the fateful day that Stealth Predator got to stealthy and hid under the blankets in our room....My brothers wide gaping feet came down and ended his career....decapatated in his prime. He had it comin though, killed too many GI-Joes.
I agree that the line is totally unappreciated nowadays, but I think that is mainly due to the reissue figs brought out in the late 90's. And the continuous repaints at the end of the line. I still have all my bros Alien/Pred figs tucked away in a box, since he slowly lost appreciation for them, I sort of inherited them. Alot of em are pretty banged up now.
My favorite predator was the Broken Tusk Predator for some reason. Bro liked being the leader so he always got the Elder Predator. In fact I remember those commercials very well. The line was exceptionally well detailed with tons of semi translucent plastics and paint apps/washes used. And all of the action effects were cool!
I just bought this figure not too long ago for a dollar. It didn't come with accessories though, and i guess i just kinda assumed it'd have the same ones as the non-stealth Predator. Those silver bits are cool though.
The Alien/Predator toys are some of 90's Kenner's best work. Even the semi-translucent-but-not-really powder blue Alien figure they released for some reason. Yeah, i bought that when it was new.
This is another line which has survived numerous purgings of my collections.
I think I have everybody except the three UK Marines. Man, this line got cut short too quick, but the loss of the cartoon was just too much for the concept to overcome, I guess.
I never bought any Predators. They came out the same time Kenner's Aliens figures were going downhill, and I associated them (perhaps unjustly) with that dying line.
